Bachelor and husbands can cook with machismo.
Ross and I met at the NAB Radio Show in August 1999. He had just given a performance for the convention. We discussed how both our wives had decided to change their lifestyles. Very funny & practical book. That really is his body on the cover!

Awesome gift for your lover, husband or both!
A friend of mine brought this book out at a party and we all roared. It actually shamed one man into cooking for the first time. She got it from Ross at a comedy club in San Francisco. I want to see the video. Very cool.

Very Funny recipes that actually work
I bought this book by comedian Ross Shafer (hos of match Game, Fox Late Show, Almost Live) and I heard it is being reprinted by Miramar Productions and that a video is also coming out. It's fun to get for your husband. And thepictures of Ross are cute too.

The Maverick Way: Profiting from the Power of the Corporate Misfit
Published in Hardcover by Maverick Way Publishing (July, 2000)
Authors: Richard Cheverton, Bill Wilson, Lenny Vincent, and Louis Dunn
Average review score:

An Excellent Case Study for Giving someone more rope
This is a set of case study information out of a highly competitive commercial industry that has seen both public outlook and technology change dramatically over the last four decades. While told in story form, the lessons are real and translatable to other industries rather readily. It suggest that management (upper) should take a close look and the non-conforming individuals to find the results of their actions, and potentially give them some more rope to succeed with.

You have to read this!
I had a great surprise when a friend from work lent me this book and said, "You have to read this." The book reads effortlessly, like a good friend telling you a great story. When I finished reading it I found the author had put a lot of things into perspective for me. I have a much greater insight into the maverick and how mavericks can benefit a business organization. For anyone in business this is required reading. For everyone else it is enlightenment and entertainment.

Star Power
Cheverton's been-there-done-that business sense combines with a novelists knack for entertainment makes The Maverick Way a star in the crowded field of business books. Instead of charted, statisitically oriented information on climbing the corporate ladder, Cheverton takes us on a wild ride as the corporate Maverick is identified, makes waves, gets things done, leads when necessary, follows when he must and works his way through the system with a vision that can't be confined. The Maverick Way made me want to get to work, rethink my strategies and be a maverick too. When I was finished with this book I wasn't left with a list of things to do but with the true spirit of what makes business great, risky and so satisfying. A must read for anyone who is serious about making a mark.

Angel
Published in Hardcover by Walker & Co (May, 1984)
Author: Carola Dunn
Average review score:

Synopsis
Lady Evangelina was lovely, the daughter of a marquis, and the reigning beauty of the London season. Of course she was deluged with marriage offers...but how could she ever be sure that her suiters were sincere?

Determined to find a husband who would love her for herself, Angel decides to pose as her Uncle's poor relation on her Lake Country Holiday. Impetuous and never at a loss for a scheme, the irrepressible beauty soon found herself playing matchmaker as well, seeking mates for her bluestocking Cousin Catherine and shy Lady Elizabeth Markham. But Angel had no way of knowing that there was more than one disguised aristocrat in the neighborhood that summer-and what a very permanent effect he would have on her heart.

Angel
The book "Angel" presents itself as a romance, yet the courageous Angel character in the book extracts different attention. I enjoyed this book because I feel it delightful to grip my hands on a book that focuses not only on romance, but invites action and insecurity, as if the characters were here in real life. I recommend this book to any person who enjoys reading books with a slight mid-evil day flare and love for a taste of adventure.

Unforgetfully Sweet
Angel is the perfect example of the under dog coming out on top. I really enjoyed this novel, because the hero, Angel, is everything women have been brought up to believe men should be. He's strong, noble, courageous and very sexy. When he gets out of prison everyone is against him because he was a convicted killer. Though this is the background given to the character, it's hard to believe Angel could kill in cold blood. It comes as a relief at the end of the novel that he really is how we the readers think him to be. He is shown to be a courageous and noble man who went to prison in order to protect his sister. It's a very sweet story in which a hardened "criminal" is given a second chance at life because of a good woman's love. All in all this novel is a compasionate tale in which good once again overcomes evil.

Cades Cove: The Life and Death of a Southern Appalachian Community, 1818-1937
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Tennessee Pr (August, 1988)
Author: Durwood Dunn
Average review score:

The most accurate account yet of Cades Cove
I've long been interested in Cades Cove history. As a native East Tennessean, I grew up with the many stories in legends that came from the area. Dunn, grandson of the last man to leave the cove, uses town records and family stories to paint a vivid account of life in the area. Dunn addresses many of the misconceptions about the town and shows a town of people that struggled from the town's beginning to the forced withdrawal to build the Great Smokies National Park. This book will most appeal to scholars, but anyone interested in Southern history would also enjoy it. Highly recommended.

Cades Cove
I have visited Cades Cove over 10 times and still find something interesting on each trip. This book was extremely insightful because I actually knew many of the names in the book and the places discussed. If you've never been to the area, you may find the book less insightful though. I love Cades Cove, and I loved this book.

A must read for those interested in Appalachian history!
After a trip to Cades Cove and Townsend to research my family tree I was intrigued by the area. Mr. Dunn's work on Cades Cove presents the history of the area in a well-researched yet enjoyable manner. I read the book in a sitting. I would really like to know more about the Chestnut Flats area!

Coaching 6,7 and 8 Year Olds
Published in Paperback by Tony Waiters World of Soccer Limited (June, 1988)
Authors: Bob Dunn, Bobby Howe, and Tony Waiters
Average review score:

How to run a practice... Read this book
Great book for the coaching of younger children. Provides a step by step format on how a practice should be run (and make it fun for the kids). Gives a 7 week practice plan where the children learn different skills appropriate to their age level.

I recently attended a coaching clinic for younger children put on by the Soccer Coach at High Point University. I was amazed to find that a lot of his suggestions were exactly the same as what I have read in this book. The kids find the practices fun, and they are learning the fundamentals of soccer.

Teaches good, structure practice for young players
Extra good for the very beginners. Somewhat applicable to players aged 4-6. Structured practices grow in complexity as skills develop. Great idea for teaching heading skills, don't know why I didn't think of it. Easily understood and can be read in less than an hour.

Awesome
Excellent for teaching the basics of soccer to younger players with no competitive pressures.

The Theology of Paul the Apostle
Published in Hardcover by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (November, 1997)
Author: James D. G. Dunn
Average review score:

Some Cautions
Dunn's book has received high praise. His scholarship and attention to detail are evident. Some, however, have called into question his advocacy of the so-called New Persepctive on Paul as being flawed in its presentation of Luther's understanding of Judaism. Read it, but read it with a critical eye.

Excellent summary of Pauline theology
Do not let the size of this volume intimidate you. Dunn's work is extensive, and yet friendly to the newer Bible student and the experienced scholar alike. Rather than a commentary of all the letters, Dunn has painstakenly reconstructed for us the mind of the "renegade" rabbi from Tarsus by logically compliling the various topics Paul dealt with.

One small point of interest I personally was glad to see was his explaination of the "corporate" church and sheds light on the overly debated predestination issues of the Calvinist and Arminians, which I think both camps miss the whole point of what "election" means. But Mr. Dunn does not spend a lot of time arguing with other scholars, which is also refreshing.

I plan on buying more of his work based on this book.

A great guide to understanding Paul's theology
This is a wonderful summary of Paul's theology written by a prominent New Testament scholar. I have been waiting for a recent book on Paul's theology that combines solid content with readability and clarity. I finally found it in this book! Dunn embraces the "new perspective" on Pauline studies on the gospel and the law. Nevertheless, a traditionalist would still find Dunn's views thought-provoking. I also like this book because it is so user-friendly and well-organized. Dunn organizes each chapter by topics (e.g. "God and humankind," "the gospel of Christ," " the process of salvation," etc.) and it is easy to follow. I highly recommend this book to layreaders, serious students, and scholars alike. It is a must for those who wish to read and understand more about Pauline theology!

UN Deux Trois: My First French Rhymes
Published in Audio Cassette by Barrons Juveniles (October, 1995)
Authors: Opal Dunn and Patrice Aggs
Average review score:

learning by heart
Initially I was disappointed that this tape was so short but it has worked out well since I am starting to know it by heart. My kids listen to it again and again. I would say the recording is done by native speakers which is important to me. The vocabulary is appropriate for the intended age level and the book is nice on it's own. I wish this were one of a series: we'd buy more.

choosing rhymes
We used this book and cassette in my French class for 4th - 6th graders. They loved the choosing rhymes(eenie, meenie, minie, mo). They were a great introduction to pronounciation and intonation. Fun and practical.

Excellent!
For my six years old daughter who has just begun to learn french, this casette -and also the beautiful book- was an excellent help by introducing her to this language. She have learned many very usefull words very quickly and she had fun.
